In the third year of what’s becoming an annual Queens ritual, DJ Rekha’s Basement Bhangra Beyond returns to the World’s Borough. Headliner Rashmeet Kaur is a Punjabi vocal powerhouse who seamlessly moves between traditional folk, and earthshaking basslines and whose credits include Lazer, Diplo, and Nucleya. The show will also feature Sonny Singh, whose bold and joyous musical innovation uplifts and channels ancestral wisdom for our time with a trumpet as a driving force; Tara Lily, a British-Bengali musician whose debut album Speak In The Dark deftly fuses jazz, electronica, trip-hop, and alternative R&B with classical Indian music. The ringleader of the festivities DJ Rekha joins this unforgettable line-up, transcending the sonic borders of hip-hop, dancehall, and diasporic grooves in a set featuring an array of percussionists, dancers including the iconic KalaSher, the signature Bhangra dance lesson, and special guests.
